Have you been told that nothing can be done for your extreme nearsightedness, farsightedness, or cataracts? If so, you’re in good company (or not so good).
Like you, many of our patients never dreamed they’d be able to drive a car, watch a movie or enjoy sports without the hassle of glasses or contacts. As our patients have seen – Refractive Lens Exchange makes it possible.
Refractive Lens Exchange is a form of treatment in which a clear lens is surgically implanted into the cornea to correct your vision. This lens functions just like a contact lens, except it works from within your eye instead of sitting directly on its surface. And just like a filling in your tooth, you won’t even notice that the lens is there.
Murrieta Optometric offers free consultations to help determine if you’re a good candidate for refractive lens exchange.
During this 10-30 minute outpatient procedure, your NVISION surgeon will:
1. Use eye drops or injections to numb or prevent movement of your eye
2. Make a precise incision in your eye
3. Carefully insert the lens in front of or just behind your iris (the colored part of your eye)
4. Provide you with a bandage contact lens and clear eye patch to cover and protect your eye
5. Prescribe anti-inflammatory drops for you to use at home
After the procedure, your surgeon will provide you with post-operative instructions to carefully follow. You’ll also need a friend or family member to provide you with a ride home - (You can typically resume driving on your own within a couple of days of the procedure.)
If you have extreme nearsightedness or farsightedness, suffer from cataracts, or have extremely dry eyes, Refractive Lens Exchange could be your best course of treatment. But only an eye doctor can help determine the best procedure for your individual needs.
